NRE was able to use a core SD40 locomotive and remanufacture it to meet the requirements of the Gabon Special Economic Zone. This included upgrades to an NFORCE control system, remanufactured engine with NRE Power Assembly, all new control stand and cab equipment, modified for a narrow gauge bogie with new traction motors, new air brake system, all new wiring, remanufactured rotating electrical equipment, etc.
